Ice on Hamlin Lake
There is a lot of ice on Hamlin Lake, but anglers are able to catch some crappie in the morning and evening--working for every fish they catch! During the week of February 23, 2008, the guys were catching nice walleyes and Northerns.
For catching blue gill, the hot colors in teardrops are purple haze and pink.
Hamlin Grocery carries a large supply of teardrops and demons glows. For snowfishing, they carry a variety of Halijigs, including glow.
Early February on Hamlin Lake
Wilson Hill is still producing some decent catches of Gills and Crappies. A few reports of Walleye to the South of Wilson Hill. North Bayou is reporting some Northern and Perch.
Plenty of ice on most areas.
Hamlin Lake Ice
Looks Good. Be careful on the way out and use your spud to check ahead of you, but conditions reported are favorable at 3-8 inches. Guys are taking their limit of Bluegill off Wilson Hill Park and there are some nice Walleye catches each day - but the guys won't tell where the fish are biting. All bayous are being fished and catches are good at Indian Pete and North Bayou. Sad to say reports for the upcoming weekend are warmer temps - we'll continue to watch the ice.
Ice on the Bayous
The bayous appear to have 3-5 inches of ice on them. They are catching Blue Gill on Upper Hamlin, but they are small. Be careful on the ice, thin in some spots. At Wilson Hill Park the ice is poor and very thin at the shoreline. There is a pressure crack down the middle. The fishing is poor. We have wax worms, spikes and moussies. If the weather continues we will have live bait Thursday, Dec 13.
Bluegills are Biting
Bluegills are biting on the main part of the lake in 10-12' of water. Walleye are spotty in 17-25' of water. Pike and bass fishing are both slow.
Bluegill Fishing Good
Bluegill fishing has been good, especially by the North Bayou on Lower Hamlin Lake and Wilson Hill Park on Upper Hamlin. Bass are being caught by Indian Pete Bayou on Upper Hamlin. Crappie fishing has slowed down with the wind we've had. Bait sales have been mostly worms, crawlers and wax worms.
