We fished offshore this AM 10 plus miles slightly SW of port in the 40 to 42 west line. There was a steep temp incline from 45 to 55 degree surface temp and steelhead were there, we boated 6 for 8 fish on. Bites were all on clean lines, 1.5 and 2 color leadcores. Spoons with orange and brass color, Starburst gold stinger, and yeager stingers all took bites. No Downrigger or divers bites though we marked lots of big fish and bait from 40 to 120 feet deep.

This was the last trip of the season for Rodmaster Fishing Charters. Our team would like to thank all of you that joined us for fishing this past year and we look forward to seeing you next year . We anticipate another very busy season in 2016 so don't forget to book your trip well in advance.

Catch rates were still hit-or-miss. The water were fairly warm with surface temperatures in the high 60's and low 70's but a north wind did turn the lake over. Anglers are still fishing about 6 miles south to the project at 80 to 100 feet down in 130 feet or off Big Sable Point in 120 to 300 feet. Most of the fish caught were taken about halfway between Ludington and Manistee when using J-plugs and cut bait. Anglers caught mostly chinook followed by coho, steelhead and lake trout.

More bites came on orange and green proking spoon on rigger down 22 ft. Green jeans spoon out 65 ft on high diver, gold starburst spoon on 3 color leadcore, MOP plug on 6 color, green jeans spoon on 4 color, fire tiger spin doctor / orange squid on rigger 25 down, and green ladder back plug on 8 color.

With warm water in the area, catch rates were up and down. Anglers were still trolling 80 to 100 feet down in 130 feet south to the project or north to Big Sable Point at 80 to 120 feet down in 120 to 300 feet. Most fish were taken about halfway between Ludington and Manistee. J-plugs and cut bait worked best with most catching chinook followed by the occasional coho, steelhead and lake trout. On the good days, anglers were averaging 5-8 fish but the bad days were 0-2. Those coming in with more fish said trolling in a certain direction has helped.

Fishing aboard the lie a lot continues to be fairly steady with a slower trip mixed in here and there, but even those days big fish are coming aboard!!!!! This morning started out north of Ludington pier heads in 100' of water and trolled north 3 miles before turning and heading back in same depth all morning. The boat traffic is finally light and the fish are more steady on the bite throughout the day! We started out the morning with almost all j plugs on full core, 225 coppers and switched to meat about 9am. That worked well with Dreamweaver kevins girlfriend and big water tackles green mile and Dreamweaver showtime with big water tackles blue UV both on divers out 220' on highs and 140' on lows.

Boats are fishing about 6 miles south to the project and 60 to 80 feet down in 120 feet or north to Big Sable Point at 60 to 120 feet down in 80 to 200 feet. Catch rates picked up this week with anywhere from 2 to 6 chinook coming in per boat and the charters coming in with even better catches. Steelhead are slowly coming in here and there with an occasional coho. The lake has turned over and colder water has pushed back in. J-plugs and cut bait have been the most popular bait. Anglers are fishing south to north at 60 to 89 feet down in 80 to 130 feet. The better fishing has been in the morning however a decent bite was reported in the evening and right at dark.

There's a common misconception amongst are clients...That afternoons are slower than mornings!? Get my point! Set up north of Big Point Sauble in 200' of water and trolled northwest to 410' before turning back. All the boats are staying from the bath house to the point so that's a good place not to be. 400' copper with 8" kg (Kevin's girlfriend) and big water tackles black UV was best but later on double glow plugs on 225' copper and down riggers at 60', 80, and the center at 110' were all productive. Set up in front of Epworth Heights in 100' of water and trolled north to the state park bath house then turned back. Best lures continue to be big water UV meat rigs being dark green 8" spin doctors by Dreamweaver lure cpany. We had the high divers out 180' and 222' and the low divers out 120' and 140'. J-plugs on 225' copper. 10 color leadcore and 7color leadcore also have been productive as of late.

The salmon appear to be here in bigger forces than the past week. Many decent catches reported by others from Little Point to Big Point Sable and north. We fished a little north of harbor to beyond the point. Just about everything we put in the water took a hit with a combined 18 bites. Bite started with plugs and a pearl with pink dots horde took 4 hits on a high diver out 140. Spoons filled the gap with moonshine happy meal mag on a 150 copper and moonshine green physco on rigger down 60 being best. Double crush white and a double slick white spindoctor with meatrigs on low diver 145 out and rigger down 90 took the most bites later. We took a steelhead on a 10 color leadcore with frosted mixed veggie spoon. We have 2 openings for the remainder of the month! Give us a shout if you are looking for a fun fishing experience!

Fishing was good but the catching was tough! We worked hard to get bites past couple trips. Worked offshore and new waters. Seems the rough waters and warming water has put lock jaw on most fish resulting in lower catch numbers. Nothing consistent...just run your best lures and stay confident. Pictures are 13 lb Brown trout and 14 lb lake trout.

Fishing today was a little more work with 10 bites and 6 fish boated. We fished north again and suspect that the warmer water combined with heavier boat traffic slowed the bite. Fish bit on 250 and 400 copper with Kevin's girlfriend and uv green ice meatrig rig and nbk spindoctor with yellow uv meat rig. Wire divers 145 and 150 for lows with green sparkler/uv yellow ice meatrig and showtime with blue moo moo meatrig. Stimulus flasher/moo moo meat rig. RodMaster Fishing Charters 517.712.8709

Fishing is steady with big kings biting early and occasionally later as the morning progresses. Trout also are around near bottom, up high and everywhere in between. Set up in front of Big Point Sauble and stayed near it all morning with lumpy water conditions and cool temps with a stiff breeze blowing out of the north. Cut our trip short this morning but not before boating a nice cooler of kings and a couple lake trout. Fished in 110-150' of water with j-plugs going first and meat rigs continuing to be the best all around lures. High dipsey divers out 170' with chrome killer spin doctor and green mile meat rigs being best combo. Hope to hear from you soon for this awesome king salmon fishing! Lie-a-lot @ (800)-850-1978

Congratulations to all Ludington offshore tournament winners! Fishing this past week has been interesting to say the least with storms, fog, and inconsistent bite. Monday appears to be a turning point. We went north to fish near Big Point Sable in deep water and hit fish with our 5th rod in a high wire diver out 140 ft with Kevin's girlfriend's spindoctor and green uv meatrig. That rig went numerous times. High diver out 160 with tincan and squid, 250 copper, 200 copper, 300 copper with green sparkler, yellow sparkler and uv ice meatrig, Kevin's girlfriend with blue moo moo meatrig. Lead core 2 color with goldstarburst spoon and riggers at 75 with 10 in netminder spindoctor and blue moo moo meat rig were productive. We also took fish on a modified uv spindoctor with big weenie blue uv spot meat rig. Our low divers never took a hit.

Fishing was slow for most today. We started north on the bank. Within the first half hour we had a large king hit a blue spin doctor with aqua blue fly. After a lengthy fight he managed to twist the hook out. Boat traffic picked up and we speculate with clear cold water the fish scattered. Later we picked up a nice steelhead on the same high diver combo out 70 ft. Long run to the 17 line we picked at 7 more Lakers and steelhead. Flat lines 1 color 2 color with custom orange spoon, git r done, Starburst and UV beefeater on rigger down 30 were producers. Good fishing to ya!

Boat anglers here are also looking for the temperature breaks and taking steelhead and lake trout in the top 30 feet. Orange and gold colored spoons are working well. Trout and salmon were also caught 25 to 100 feet down in 100 to 220 feet with orange and green spoons or yellow and red meat rigs. Those bottom bouncing for lake trout have done well with dodgers and spin-glo's.

After fishing lake trout the last two trips we decided to take a long drive this afternoon with the guys from Epworth! Fishing started slow and never was real hot but we did end up with a nice bunch of steelhead, lake trout and a 14lb king salmon. Ran out in front of Manistee were a cold pocket of water had been holding a log of fish. All fish were on the surface rods (1 color, 3color, and free birds) with Yeck fireballs and Dreamweaver super slims in red and orange colors! The drive there is well over an hour each way but lots of fun when you get on the break in temp.

Hard north east winds has put cold water on the surface out front making fishing very tough. We set up this morning out in 200' of water in front of the pump storage plant and trolled west for two hours. This proved to be a bad move with no bites and no signs of fish either! Turned east shortly after 9am and went into 100' of water were we saw fish down near the bottom. We reset with Dreamweaver paddles and fly's and some lake trout rigs and managed to put together a real nice box of lake trout. The lake will settle in and fishing will continue to improve. Looking forward to the next week and weeks to come!

Fishing continues to be quite good!!!!! Left the dock at 330 for this afternoon trip and set up north of Ludington waste water treatment facility in 60' and trolled almost to the bathhouse in front of the Sauble River working 60-80 feet of water. Spin doctors by dreamweaver in tuxedo and showtime with fourth of July meat rig and green mile meat rigs both by big water tackle on low divers just off bottom were very good. King fishing continues...Started out front of Ludington pier heads in 120' and trolled southwest to 300' of water in front of the pump storage plant. Fishing was for the most part on the slow side with a fish coming here and there. The warm water has spread out and so have the fish. There's still plenty biting to make the trip a lot of fun! Best baits aboard the Lie-A-Lot were a glow spoon in green jeans color pattern on a 225 copper, big water meat rigs behind Dreamweaver spin doctors on high wire divers out 225' and low wire divers with same meat rigs by big water and Dreamweaver spin doctors. June fishing will continue to get better as the water warms up! Book your trip aboard the Lie-A-Lot soon...

Interesting AM of fishing. We set lines at 7:30am starting in 70 feet of water. We fished most of the morning in heavy fog and bumpy seas. We had a great crew and they toughed out the 46 degree air temperature to boat 9 out of the 10 fish we had on. We caught all our fish in 70 to 100 feet of water. 300 copper, low wires out 140 and 150 using Obama clown/white moo moo meat rig, 10 in Dream weaver black with Red and white crush spindoctor/red meat rig, high diver with green and white crush spindoctor/blue bubble fly, 200 copper with yeck fireball spoon, rigger, at 65 feet of water blue dolphin spoon. King fishing continues to be outstanding aboard the Lie A Lot! Set up out front of the Ludington pier head in 125' of water and trolled southwest out to 240' of water. Best lures were the out and down downrigger at 61' with a heck magnum blue dolphin and the center downrigger at 80' with a 10" white crush spin doctor and green glow fly by Dreamweaver lures. Also good was the 225' copper with a glow spoon in yellow tail color pattern and a high wire dipsey diver out 220' with a showtime spin doctor and big water meat rig in moo moo color pattern. The day was over cast which helped to keep the bite going most of the morning. Book your charter aboard the lie a lot soon while these salmon are around

Fishing has been pretty slow the last few days after the hard north winds churned the water up. Decided to run way out and south and had some steelhead biting on the surface with yeck fireball being the best on 2 color leadcore lines. We fished out 15 miles for most of our trip in the cold water then came east as the evening came. The warmer inside water was holding a few kings and a couple lake trout. Kings we had on came on a full (10) core with a glow spoon in green jeans. Also a downrigger down 50 with a blue jackall. Congratulations to my crew on their wedding and best wish to the future from the crew and family of Lie-A-Lot charter!

The good news the water is warming, setting up and fishing should improve. The bad news is the bite was slow today. We fished straight out in 65 to 90 fow. Water temp was 47 degrees. As we moved north it quickly dropped to 40! We spun around and worked south. The water warmed to 49 degrees.we fished south as far as the 54's and out as far as 140 fow. Our best water for marking fish, bait and bites was 100 to 75 fow. We had 10 fish on and got 5 in the net, 2 kings and 3 Lake Trout. Best combos were low wire divers out 110' to 175' with spindoctors, 10' Show time with blue moo meat rig and Mountain dew NBK with lemon ice meatrig. High Slide diver out 75 ft with 30 ft lead and orange and green Pro King spoon, 4 color lead core with orange fireball, 300 copper with blue / silver King flasher and blue meathead, 200 copper with 8 in Spin Doctor Kevins Girlfriend/ blue moo meat rig, and .5 color with copper majic man spoon.
Fishing should really fire up now, give us a call to book your trip: 517.712.8709.

The North wind cooled the water back down to 41 degrees to the north. The channel was loaded with bait so we opted to fish the pier heads. First pass outside produced a small king and continued efforts produced two more. Bites came on high diver out 25 ft with a black and silver super slim and the other high diver with agold guppy silver slim. Moving farther south to the bass lake area. We fished 30 feet of water to 70 feet of water banged 2 lake trout and a 12 lb king. The high diver with black and silver SS... took the 12 lb king. 4 colors of lead core leading a fireball took other bites. Dreamweaver uv ice spindoctor and matching meat rig on a wire diver out 80 ft took a nice lake trout. Final count was 6 fish boated out of nine bites.

The spring kings have arrived. There have only been a few small kings caught to this point but this morning we were able to get some very nice kings early.  Set up half way between Ludington and Big Point Sauble lighthouse in 100' of water. Our first lines in were wire divers with Dreamweaver spin doctors and Big water meat rigs. The high divers were out 240' and the low divers were out 140'. Both sides took quite a few fish. The out and down downrigger was at 47' with Yeck magnum blue dolphin and it caught a few and lost a few.
I also had the center downrigger at 91' with a white crush on crush 10" spin doctor and pickled sunshine fly and it two caught a couple fish.  The fishing was very very good early but slowed way down after the morning bite.  June is looking very good with these salmon finally showing up!!!!!!!  Give me a call (800)-850-1978 and book your trip soon for June!!!!

Saturday was slow for most boats fishing out of Ludington. We were on a scouting mission and did manage to boat a king, steelhead and laker out of the 5 fish we had on. Best water was in the 30 to 80 feet of water range. We did venture out to 140 feet of water west of the project with no action or marking of fish. Leadcore in 5, 6, and 10 colors with fireballs, carmel dolphin stingers, and blue dolphin all took hits. Wire diver out 80 ft with Kevin's girlfriend's spin doctor and blue moo meat rig lost a nice fish.

Sunday was a very productive AM with our crew boating 11 fish out of the 14 bites we had. Two kings and an awesome Lake Trout catch with a 17.5 lb, 15 lb, 13.5 lb, 12 lb and several 10 lb fish! Best water was south in 40 to 70 feet of water. Fish came on lead core 1 color with carmel dolphin SS, 6 color with fireball, 4 color, 5 color with stingray carmel dolphin, high diver out 60 ft with blue dolphin nuclear, Downrigger down 23 ft with hot mixed veggie, Chute down rigger 36 ft with tin can dodger spin n glow, low wire diver with tin can and spin n glo. We did mark a lot of big fish and a mix of smaller fish. Water had warmed up 3 degrees.

We still have some openings available. Good fishing to you!

Fishing was very slow on Saturday for most boats. We experienced a slight improvement on Sunday AM with 7 bites, boating 6 fish. We released 2 small kings and kept a brown, lake trout and two king salmon. Best water depths were 30 to 50 feet using Downriggers at 15, 22, and 25 ft. Both regular and slide divers produced fish and only one fish came on a board with 1 color lead core. We are anticipating an improvement with king fishing as the water warms a little more. There is still time to book your May charter!

Fishing remains awesome for the shallow water shoreline off Ludington. After only 1 bite in the 8 to 12 FOW line, we moved out to explore 20 to 30 FOW. Action was steady and we ended with 13 fish boated as the result of 18 hits. A nice spring king that weighed 13 lbs, a brown, a steelhead, and 10 Lake trout fell to net! Best action was on .5, 1, 1.5 and 2 color lead core behind boards trailing spoons, watermelon stingers, small brown spoons, and super slims. Both low slide divers took fish with mixed veggie regular and super slim Dreamweaver spoons as did small divers run as highs. This was a steady fish AM with three doubles. Water had warmed 3 degrees from yesterday and was pushing north fast. We have openings over the next several weeks and are predicting some great king action! May fishing has started, this is when the lilacs bloom and the king salmon soon show up. The Rodmaster team went on a Salmon hunt this AM and found only 36 degree surface water fishing out to 160 depths. Moving back into the shallows and balmy 42 degree water we found browns and lakers. Fish are biting on Dreamweaver Super Slims along with other small spoons in brown patterns, blue/silver bombers, perch color Rapalas. Effective methods are boards with flat lines, .5 color, 1 color, 1.5 color leadcore along with slide divers without rings, and small size divers. An occasional King Salmon is being caught so hang on for surprise. Check out the salmon planting YouTube video from this at the Ludington State Park. Link is on Rodmaster website and Facebook section. Tight lines!

Fishing for browns has picked up out of the port of Ludington with occasional steelhead, lake trout and kings in the catch. Fishing was both north and south of the harbor trolling in 9 to 20 FOW. Troll with flat lines, one color lead core, 1/2 color lead core, 1-1/2 color lead core run on small boards with floating rapalas, bombers, and small spoons. Small divers out 17 to 30 feet with small spoons were also taking fish. Lures with brown color in them were most productive. Most of our catch had gobies in their stomach. Fishing for May should be awesome and we still have some days available for trips! Give us a call today to book your charter.
