2018 - 2017 - 2016 - 2015 - 2014 - 2013

Anglers love fishing on Hamlin Lake during the winter. Hamlin Lake is located just four miles north of Ludington in West Michigan. Ice fishing on Hamlin Lake is a great way to enjoy the winter--just set up a shanty and get ready to catch some bluegills, crappies, perch, walleye, pike and muskie. Throughout the year, Hamlin Lake and its bayous offer an outstanding variety of fish including tiger muskie, northern pike, walleye, large and small mouth bass, perch, crappie and bluegill. Lake Michigan salmon and steelhead are seasonally plentiful at the dam site within the Ludington State Park. Boat and motor rentals, launch ramps, bait, supplies, food and gas are never too far away.

2014 Hamlin Lake Fishing Reports

Hamlin Lake Fishing Report July 17, 2014

Posted for Hamlin Lake by Dave Mahannah of North Bayou Resort on July 17th, 2014
The fishing has been absolutely phenomenal! The catches are so plentiful, we've had a hard time keeping up with emptying the guts from containers at our fish-cleaning station. People are catching lots of crappies, bluegill and bass. We are also hearing of quite a few walleyes - one guy who's been coming up fishing for years says he caught more walleye this year than ever before. Reports of some smaller muskie being caught as well. There was a lull in fishing for awhile, maybe due to the mayfly hatches, but now the fish are biting again like crazy! The great fishing recently might also have something to do with the cooler temperatures we were having.

Fishing this week is about the same as last week. Pan fish are continuing to be caught, though not as abundant. Most are fishing the weed beds in 10-12' of water, and a few of the fisherman I spoke with were trolling. I had one report of walleye--a nice keeper. I think maybe the cooler temps may have played into the slow catch as well as many of our regulars are pre-fishing on the big lake for the tournament this weekend as opposed to fishing Hamlin Lake.

Bluegill and panfish are being caught around the weedy shore from Wilson Hill Park to Victory Park in about 10-12 feet of water. Anglers are typically using worms and crawlers. Lots of excited fishermen the last few days as they are catching walleye! The ones that have come in to shore are just long enough to be legal, but keepers all the same. Walleye are reported around the narrows, but guys are hush, hush.....top secret! Large area of water for all to fish, catching walleye in much of the same places as during ice fishing.

Fishing was terrific for awhile, then it slowed down for a bit. The last few days, word is that the fishing is picking up nicely. We are hearing about good catches of bluegill, crappies and small mouth bass. Some pike and muskies are being caught, though no news about any record sizes at this time. People fishing for walleye seem to be doing well using planer boards and crank baits in the evenings. With temperatures predicted to be cooler in the days ahead, we anticipate that the fish may move to shallower waters.

Due to the weather, fishing patterns are running a few weeks behind. Cooler water temps mean the fish are biting in shallower depths. Reports have been coming in of great catches of crappies, bluegill and bass. Crappies are biting like crazy on Upper Hamlin near the Victory Park area. Bluegill are being caught in the bayous and shallow waters. Bass are coming in around 3'-10' depths. We are also getting reports of some walleye and pike, which are found at the edge of the weeds. Just recently, a kid caught a muskie while fishing off the dock at North Bayou Resort. All in all, the fishing looks fine for Memorial Weekend on Hamlin Lake!

Another night of successful fishing on Upper Hamlin. Limits being caught of bluegill & crappie. Was a little cold and windy , but over-all......a good night.
Fishing in the narrows/ Indian Pete area, 2 ft. off the bottom, using glow tungsten . If you plan to take a quad or motor vehicle out please use caution and check the Wilson Park launch first. Lincoln Rd.access is in very poor condition and really should be avoided. It would be wise to bring along creepers or safety treads for your boots as it is very slippery, again .....use caution!

Beautiful day on the lake and a great day/evening to be out fishing. With the warm temps. it was enjoyable to sit and fish outside of a shanty , which many did. Was told that the "normal areas" where fish are generally caught has changed up a little and had to be searched for. Nice amounts of fish caught , mix catch. Fishing in 18 -20 ft. of water , wax worms/perch minnows on a tungsten ( most any glow ). Evening fishing continues to be best.
Hope everyone is able to get out and enjoy the day before the weather change. I will keep you posted of conditions as reports come in.

Good morning from Hamlin Grocery!!!
It is a very cold, windy, single digit start to the day with blizzard conditions forecasted. I really don't have much to report.......
Waters are said to be somewhat cloudy , so very little spearing has been going on. A few panfish (perch & bluegill) being caught. It's been pretty slow. I had two brave souls in for bait this a.m. -- Sean McDonald, and Chris Quick. Both men love to fish and don't let Mother Nature slow them down.
I will post any reports that come in today, and over the weekend. If you should be out today, PLEASE dress for the conditions...... and drive safely. The roads are starting to drift. Have a great weekend!
