Historic Downtown Hart

Remove yourself from today's hectic world as you tour the Hart Historic District. Visit a 19th century church, whose basement houses the extensive "Seymour Rider Indian Artifacts Collection." If you're interested in American Indian antiques, this should not be missed. Hart's Historic District also features a log cabin, one room schoolhouse, and Chief Cobmoosa's house. An animated doll display in action can be found in an original grist and flour mill—a wonderful attraction for people off all ages.

Musical performances are featured in two cultural events held each year. The Hart Community Performing Arts Series brings live performances of classical music, jazz, dance, and vocal music to the area in programs scheduled October through May. The Hart Public Schools Auditorium hosts the Oceana Folk Series, featuring fine performances in folk and acoustic music, from January through May. The venue for all performances is the Hart Middle School Auditorium.

Summertime brings the National Asparagus Festival in mid-June, the Take It to Hart car show and more the end of July, and the Oceana County Fair in late August. Labor Day weekend sees the annual Hart Heritage Days and the Honoring Our Elders traditional pow wow.

December in downtown Hart is truly special, with old-fashioned Christmas decorations that put you in the holiday spirit. Be sure to visit the Farmer's Market building to watch the animated doll display.

Enjoy—and learn a bit about the past—as you take a relaxing afternoon and tour the Hart Historic District.
