John Riedl... Paintings by Riedl

John has always had an interest in art, and enjoyed painting and drawing in high school. He worked in Ludington as a mechanical designer/draftsman, and soon began photographing the local scenery to use as subject matter for his original oil paintings. He considers himself a self-taught artist, studying with local artists and learning from books and videos.
"Sailing" by John Riedl

Upon retiring in 1998, John had more time to put his talent to use, capturing the beauty of the local natural settings in his artworks. He expanded his repertoire to include scenes from other areas of the country as the couple visited them, taking photographs which he refers to when composing his paintings. Reproductions of these original oil and acrylic paintings are available in print form as well as notecards.

Marion Riedl... Creations by MIR

Marion's interest in sewing goes back to her Junior High home economics class days where she learned the basics. She grew up and graduated from high school in Rome, a city in upstate New York, and received a bachelor’s degree from college. She is active in the Ludington Area Center for the Arts.

Michigan Potholders by Marion Riedl
Marion began in the craft show business in 1995. Her business includes quilted placemats, runner sets and pot holders. Her most popular items are Michigan appliqued potholders and kitchen towels to match.

For 28 years, the couple participated in arts and crafts fairs throughout the West Michigan area, from Niles to Charlevoix. After they both retired from their regular jobs, you would see them on the road almost every summer weekend with their motorhome pulling a trailer filled with their arts and crafts as they traveled from one show to another.
