Ice conditions in the area are NOT great right now

There have been a few people fishing on Upper Hamlin off of Wilson Hill, as well as off by Buttersville on PM Lake.
We do not encourage anyone to go on the ice yet, but of you do take a Spud.

Temps are supposed to drop all through the weekend, until after Christmas with highs in the teens and single digits. Most places should be ready to fish by next weekend!!!

Most inland (smaller) lakes have been producing several gills and crappie in the shallow water on beds, best luck has been with leaf worms or night crawlers. Some of the larger inland lakes like Hamlin have had better luck in 10-12 feet of water as the panfish are approaching their beds.

Happy 2017 Hamlin Lake Anglers!

The 2017 ice fishing season is officially underway. Anglers have been getting out on some of the bayous and “parts” of Upper Hamlin for a week or two already.

ICE/WEATHER CONDITIONS VARY, so always use a spud in front of you to check the ice conditions and never go icefishing without a partner!

WILSON HILL PARK (Upper Hamlin Lake) - Is a “first ice“ hotspot and always attracts a good size crowd early in the season. I got a few reports that the ice there is anywhere from 4”- 6” thick in the area. Fishing has been fair, with some decent size Bluegills being caught. Mousies and waxworms on orange, green, chartreuse or glow teardrop jigs have been working well. A few small perch and pike are also being caught in the area. I also got a report of a couple of snowmobiles out on the ice last week.

BE SAFE and ALWAYS USE YOUR SPUD IN FRONT OF YOU!!!

Good fishing!
