Every year, the Mason-Lake Conservation District, AFFEW, and the Mason County Garden Club offer sales for tree seedlings, plants, bulbs, and native plants.
This sale includes Conifer seedlings, Conifer transplants, Deciduous trees & shrubs, fruit trees, berries, grapes, dune grass, planting supplies, and additional items.
Orders may be placed online or order forms printed at oceanaconservation.org. Printed order forms should be mailed to 1064 Industrial Park Dr., Shelby, MI, 49455.
This sale had traditionally been an in-person event but, for 2023, only online orders were accepted. Orders maybe placed through for Garden & Single Species flats plus individual Quart & Gallon plants. For more info, visit affew.org.
Native plants are great for any landscape and are highly tolerant to year-round weather conditions in Michigan. They are also more resistant to pests, disease and drought.
Planting a tree can be very beneficial to the health of the environment. Earth Day and Arbor Day at the end of April is a great time to plant trees, being the first opportunity where the ground is usually warm enough to plant. The Mason-Lake Conservation District Fall Tree Sale is annually held in October. It is conducted by pre-orders only.

*Fall tree planting is recommended only for conifers on coarse textured soil (sand and loamy sands), soil that is well or moderately well drained.
The Mason County Garden Club holds two plant sales annually at Leveaux Park, one in May and the other in September. The sales are held at Leveaux Park, East Ludington Avenue near Madison Street, in Ludington. It is a great time to get various plants and bulbs to brighten up your garden. You can either bring a plant to exchange, or you can purchase a plant if you don’t have any to exchange.
